Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for multiple IT datacenters which contain large amounts of IT infrastructure hardware including servers, SAN arrays, and networking appliances. Working closely with various IT owners, the incumbent manages all aspects of the datacenter’s day to day operation to include equipment inventory, maintenance, and space planning, HVAC and fire suppression inspections and maintenance, and redundant power distribution within the datacenter to include generators, UPS and associated equipment.  Manage the physical security and regulatory compliance requirements of the datacenter environments including audit activities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

  • Management of datacenter electrical systems and sub-systems to include generator and UPS devices at each facility
  • Act as primary point of contact for all fire suppression systems, electrical, and HVAC concerns within the corporate datacenters in a 24x7 operational environment
  • Oversee routine maintenance within the datacenters, including but not limited to power and cooling, fire suppression, generator operations, and general cleanliness of environments
  • Installation, troubleshooting, and management of structured cabling and raceways within the datacenter and IDF environments
  • Datacenter space management, to include tracking hardware installations and removals
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with property management and other tenants to jointly resolve issues
  • Communication and coordination between peers, IT teams, and management as it applies to datacenter facilities
  • Create and maintain datacenter documentation that outlines support procedures and contract information, vendor management and asset disposal procedures
  • Develop, maintain and report on datacenter costs, trending, and opportunities for reduction of associated expenses
  • Responsible for staying abreast of datacenter technological advances and market trends to recognize opportunities for improvement and / or cost reduction
  • Ensure datacenter policies and procedures are documented, communicated, and adhered to
  • Manage the physical security and regulatory compliance requirements of the datacenter environments to include audit activities


Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • Experience in large, multi-datacenter environments with similar responsibilities for environmental hardware and associated devices to include budget management responsibilities
  • Must be able to properly tailor communication to, and work effectively with, both business and technical teams
  • Must be self-motivated and work independently
  • High degree of initiative, mature judgment, and discretion
  • Must demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be able and willing to travel 25+ % of the time


Desired Skills:

  • Relevant industry certifications such as Datacenter Operations Management (DCOM)  
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an IT related discipline
  • 5+ years of datacenter facilities management experience in an enterprise environment, preferably within SSAE 18 accredited environments or publicly traded large corporations
  • Experience in datacenter migration & consolidation
  • ITIL certifications
